Dave Mackay Biography

Dave Mackay is a Los Angeles based pianist, vocalist and composer with roots in Art Tatum, Bill Evans and Debussy. With peerless technique, masterful harmonies and a palette of colors unlike anything in jazz, he has blessed performances of such luminaries as Sonny Stitt, Art Pepper, Paul Horn and Joe Pass. In venues as varied as The Village Vanguard and Town Hall, his musicianship has been heard from Hong Kong to Province and has been preserved on over fifteen albums with colleagues like Chet Baker, Don Ellis, Andy Simpkins and Joey Baron.

Concentrating the breadth of art revealed in his playing, his compositions have graced albums of Cal Tjader, Bill Henderson and Emil Richards as well as his own. His collaboration with flutist Lori Bell and guitarist/vocalist Ron Satterfield has brought much pleasure to many audiences in Southern California and significantly broadened the expressive potential of trio music. In any musical context, he touches the hearts of all who hear him.
